The longest tenured coach in all of the 4 major sports has resigned as Head Coach of the Utah Jazz. Jerry Sloan stepped down from coaching on Thursday. Coach Sloan spent 23 years with the Utah Jazz. In his 23 years with the Jazz, they only had 1 losing season. The word for Jerry Sloan’s teams is: consistency. At his press conference Sloan said, “My time is up……it’s time to move on.” Here is the press conference…..
There are several rumors that have floated around about Deron Williams pushing Jerry Sloan out of Utah. Williams denied this on Utah radio on Friday. I don’t think this rumor is true at all. It is true that Williams and Sloan had a heated disagreement regarding the teams preparation, among other things. Deron Williams isn’t the type of “diva” player to push a coach out. I do think that this was going to be Deron Williams last season in Utah and it definitely will be now. We will have to see how Deron fares being away from Sloan.
No, Jerry Sloan is not coming to Cleveland! Do you think a 23 year Hall of Fame coach wants to deal with this mess? Absolutely not! Jerry is trying to go home and ride his John Deere around his property. I don’t blame him, he’s been through it all.
