GRAMMY- and Brit Award-winning musician [lastfm]Dave Stewart[/lastfm] is making waves this week with the release of a new video for “Can’t Get You Out of My Head,” a song from his upcoming album The Blackbird Diaries (due in the US on August 23). This record makes the first venture into new material as a solo artist since his 1998 release of Sly Fi.

The Blackbird Diaries signifies a bold change of pace for the legendary songwriter, in drawing a heavy emphasis on Americana stylings with a touch of blues. Complimenting these Heartland sounds are Stewart’s well-defined lyrics that are more autobiographic and narrative driven than his previous efforts.

Hailing from Sunderland, England, Stewart embarked on his muscial career as part of a team, when in 1976 he was introduced to his future musical and romantic partner, [lastfm]Annie Lennox[/lastfm]. The two formed [lastfm]Eurythmics[/lastfm] in 1980, a new wave, synth drive pop rock group that was to become one of the most successful duos of all time. They ventured into the mainstream music scene in 1983 with the release of their second album, Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This). Their hit single of the same name launched Eurythmics into pop icons.

Stewart additionally experimented behind the scenes, producing material for [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Tom Petty[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Ringo Starr[/lastfm], and most recently, [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Joss Stone[/lastfm]. He has played on style with the likes of legends such as [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]BB King[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]U2[/lastfm], and [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Bruce Springsteen[/lastfm].

And now with The Blackbird Diaries, featuring guests like [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Stevie Nicks[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Colbie Caillat[/lastfm], Stewart extends his career in the music world into a new decade.

The Blackbird Diaries is being released August 23 on Weapons of Mass Entertainment/Surfdog Records through Razor & Tie (iTunes pre-order available now.)
