[photogallerylink id=36269 align=left] Don DeVito, the GRAMMY Award-winning producer who worked on Bob Dylan‘s Blood on the Tracks and Desire, has passed away at the age of 72 after suffering from prostate cancer for the past 16 years.

DeVito also worked with other iconic artists like Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, and Aerosmith during his long career.

DeVito began training as an executive with CBS in 1967 and worked as A&R manager covering Miami, Florida before heading to New York in 1971. DeVito spent his entire career at Columbia/CBS Records, where, according to BBC News, he “went on to become one of the label’s most influential executives and producers.”

DeVito would be nominated for five GRAMMYs during his career, winning Best Traditional Folk Recording in 1989 for the album Folkways: A Vision Shared: A Tribute to Woody Guthrie & Leadbelly. And in addition to working with Dylan, Springsteen, Joel, and Aerosmith, DeVito also worked with James Taylor, Simon and Garfunkel, [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Tony Bennett[/lastfm], and [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Carole King[/lastfm].

Don VeVito is survived by his wife Carolyn and two children, Marissa and James.
