[mp3com-artist]Pete Seeger[/mp3com-artist] is one of the many artists to cover [mp3com-artist]Bob Dylan[/mp3com-artist] for the upcoming compilation Chimes of Freedom: The Songs of Bob Dylan — Honoring 50 Years of Amnesty International. His cover is something special though. It features the 92-year old American folk icon performing Dylan’s “Forever Young.” Originally recorded for on Dylan’s 1974 album Planet Waves, Seeger’s version also showcases the Rivertown Kids, a children’s choir.
The song’s co-producer, Martin Lewis posted a video that he has since taken down. In a phone conversation, Martin told me that he had originally uploaded the video for friends to watch and underestimated the power of the internet. Lewis also produced 7 other songs for the compilation including the covers from Joe Perry, Pete Townshend, Paul Rodgers & Nils Lofgren, Seal & Jeff Beck, and Billy Braag.
The highly anticipated double disc-set, that features 80 artists including Sting, Patti Smith, and Dylan himself, will be released on January 24th.
On a side note, today (January 3rd) is the anniversary of the kick-off of the Planet Waves tour in 1974, where the Band reunited with Dylan. Both would play individual and joint sets.
