Janis Joplin might have passed on in 1970, but Cleveland is striving this summer to keep her spirit alive.
Cleveland Playhouse Square will originate the national tour of One Night With Janis Joplin, starting with its first show on July 27th. Cat Stephani will play Joplin throughout all the performances.
The production features 25 songs, many of them Joplin signatures, interspersed with a handful of numbers showcasing how the singer was artistically influenced by blues singers like Bessie Smith, Odetta and Aretha Franklin.
“One Night” was created, written and directed by Randy Johnson in association with Joplin’s surviving family members and Jeffrey Jampol, who manages the estates of other deceased rockers from that era.
The performances are from July 27th to August 19th with tickets ranging from $35 to $65 dollars.
