If Boston is where it all started for Aerosmith, then Cleveland is where it all fell apart.
It was the infamous World Series of Rock concert at the old stadium on July 28th 1979, where a few errant drops of milk landing on a band members girlfriend started an altercation that led to Joe Perry leaving the band. They weren’t the same without him. What they were… was fried.
Joe rejoined the band in 1984 for a tour with the group. In 1985 they released their reunion album Done With Mirrors. It was in 1987 that they would regain noterity with Permanent Vacation.
You get the feeling that there still is a high degree of antimosity under the surface, but they all let bygones be bygones, so Aerosmith can survive. Of course, there’s there’s millions of dollars to be made too.
Drummer Joey Kramer was in town yesterday at the Rock Hall, just yards away from ground zero in 1978, where a great band ignored the advice of their parents, and cried over spilled milk.
