Woman Released From Jail, Hit By Car

CANTON, OH – Canton Police received a call and rushed to the 3800 block of State Route 62 to respond to a hit and run victim at 6:00 a.m.

When arriving at the scene, officers found Heather K. Smith, 26, who had already died from injuries. According to 19 Action News, after reviewing video from the Stark County Jail and Sheriff’s Department, deputies and Canton Police began searching for a black SUV that fled eastbound along SR 62.

Heather Smith had been arrested previously for theft and passing bad checks. She was released on bond from Stark County Jail at 1:15 a.m. on Saturday. Without a ride home, Smith began walking. The hit and run occurred a few hours later.
Police have located and arrested one suspect who is connected to the hit and run. He will not be identified to the public at this time.
