At 1:20 p.m. on February 7, 1964, The Beatles landed at JFK airport in New York City to an estimated three thousand fans along with hundreds of members of the press..

Two days later, the band would perform on the Ed Sullivan Show for the first time. An estimated 73 million viewers in 23 million households tuned in for the broadcast, ushering in Beatlemania in the United States.

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Beatles arrival in the U.S., CBS will air a GRAMMYs special.

The Night That Changed America: A GRAMMY Salute To The Beatles which will be recorded the night after the GRAMMYs on Monday, January 27th  and be broadcast exactly 50 years to the day of the Beatles‘ debut performance on The Ed Sullivan Show, Sunday, February 9, (8 p.m., live ET/delayed PT) on CBS.

Performing are  Alicia Keys and John Legend (who will perform together), as well as  John Mayer,  Keith Urban and Maroon 5. The Eurythmics’ Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart are also set to reunite for the salute.

Showbiz411.com is reporting that the two surviving Beatles members, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, could once again grace the stage inside the Ed Sullivan Theatre, during a taping of  The Late Show with David Letterman.

The last time McCartney and Starr performed on stage together was at New York’s Radio City Music Hall on April 4th, 2009 at the Change Begins Within benefit concert.

On January 21st, The U.S. Albums, a new 13-CD Beatles collection spanning 1964′s Meet The Beatles! to 1970′s Hey Jude, will be released by Apple Corps Ltd./Capitol.
