The crowded quarterback room for the Browns got a little relief Thursday with the release of Connor Shaw.
Shaw confirmed his release on his twitter account tweeting, “@Browns Thankful for the two years spent in CLE. Learned & grew a lot! Ready to see where God guides my family next!”
Shaw spent the 2015 season on injured reserve after sustaining a broken right thumb during the preseason. After spending the first 16 weeks on the Browns practice squad, Shaw started the 2014 season finale in Baltimore and completed 14-of-28 passes for 177 yards and an interception in a 20-10 loss to the Ravens.
Shaw’s departure leaves the Browns with 4 quarterbacks: Robert Griffin III, Josh McCown, Austin Davis and Cody Kessler.
Griffin and McCown are expected to compete for the starting job this fall when camp opens on July 29 while Davis and Kessler, who was drafted in the third round in April, are expected to compete for a backup role behind to two veterans.
