The Daily Cut: The Jimi Hendrix Experience “Foxy Lady”

The Jimi Hendrix Experience: “Foxy Lady”

YEAR: 1967

WRITER: Jimi Hendrix

Peaked at number-67 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The late Jimi Hendrix Experience bassist Noel Redding told us that there were foxy ladies everywhere when the band was the toast of London in the days leading up to what became known as the Summer of Love. “There were plenty of women about, I’ll tell ya, they were everywhere. And at some point we used to try to avoid them. We’d say, ‘Look, I must try and get some sleep tonight chaps.’ [Laughs] But then I would go down the bar and have a beer and then some chick would walk in and say, ‘Hello.’ Ah. ‘Can they come up to my room?’ ‘Yeah.’ ‘Can I bring my girlfriend?’ ‘Yeah, alright.’ ‘Can she bring her girlfriend?’ ‘Yes, OK.’ Up to the room, zip, get a few beers in, etc., etc., and suddenly you get no sleep.”

On July 8th, 1967, The Jimi Hendrix Experience began its first full U.S. tour, as the opening act for The Monkees, in Jacksonville, Florida.
