The Daily Cut: The Moody Blues “Isn’t Life Strange”

The Moody Blues: “Isn’t Life Strange”

ALBUM: Seventh Sojourn

YEAR: 1972

WRITER: John Lodge

Peaked at number-29 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Moody Blues singer-bassist John Lodge says what gives “Isn’t Life Strange” its unique quality is the instrument keyboardist Mike Pinder played on it. “That was written on an 1892 harmonium, the ones with the pedals [makes pumping sound]. If you listen to the record, you can hear Mike’s feet going [makes sound], pushing away. You can actually hear the pedals going backwards and forwards pumping the air into the keyboard.”

Moody Blues singer-bassist John Lodge celebrates his 71st birthday today.
