The Daily Cut: The Allman Brothers Band “Dreams”

The Allman Brothers Band: “Dreams”

ALBUM: The Allman Brothers Band

YEAR: 1969

WRITER: Gregg Allman

The over-seven-minute song was never released as a single, but continues to receive airplay to this day.

Dreams,” from The Allman Brothers Band’s debut album, has stood the test of time. Guitarist Dickey Betts tells us a couple of things that make the song special for him.  “Gregg wrote it and I think the arrangement came from the movie 2001. You know, the theme [sings it]. And of course it’s the landmark performance of Duane Allman on slide guitar. He just went on and on and on with it and it was magic from the beginning to the end.”

Latter day Allman Brothers Band bassist Oteil Burbridge celebrates his 52nd birthday today (August 24th).
