Hopefully you’re getting an extra day this weekend to relax and have fun and enjoy! Don’t waste it! Lots going on in and around town.
If you’ve been staying away from the downtown area this summer due to all of the extra special events and extra security, maybe this weekend is a good time to pop down and check out the all new Public Square. There is a lot happening this weekend as well as the coming weeks. I’ve seen some great photos from friends splashing the in the new pool on Public Square with those fun colorful giant animals. I need to take some time and splash around myself!
The Cedar Lee has their usual array of films. Cleveland-owned and operated. If you always go to the big chain movie theaters, consider spending your money locally this weekend. The Cleveland Cinema folks own and operate theaters in Cleveland Heights, Tower City, Shaker Heights, the Gordon Square area, Chagrin Falls, and Oberlin (as well as branching out to Pittsburgh!) and have first run block busters as well as foreign and indie treats. Not only does Cedar Lee showing the movie about the Obama’s early life together called Southside with You, they are also running the indie comedy Don’t Think Twice, as well as oldie but goody Rocky Horror Picture Show and Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
And don’t forget if you are running low on cheese and bread, the West Side market is open on Sundays now. Parking might be a bit in demand, but it’s a gorgeous weekend to park and not mind a wee walk. Not only can you score fresh everything–cheese, meat, fruits and veggies, as well as bakery–I tend to find most of the prices cheaper than the local chain grocer. Check in at Town Hall and put your name on the waiting list, go shop, and they’ll text you when your table is ready. Then go eat their fantastically fresh nachos!
What about going for a walk? Check out the Cleveland Metroparks newest gem in the emerald necklace, Acacia. It’s on Cedar Road right across from Beachwood Place. The old country club and golf course now park land features rolling hills as well as a few stocked lakes. Free to all!
When you get worn out and want to get into your jammies and flop into bed, don’t miss the re-broadcast of I Miss Downton on WVIZ. While we eagerly await the new season of Poldark (beginning September 25!) and Churchill starring the fantastic Michael Gambon, you can relive Downton Abbey in all its glory with I Miss Downton featuring Allen Leach aka Tom Branson.
Whatever you decide to do, hope you’re having fun! And staying safe!
