Brian Wilson’s new memoir (inventively titled I Am Brian Wilson) chronicles his struggles with drug abuse and mental illness resulting from his experimentation with psychedelics at the height of the Beach Boys’ fame.
And while the October 11th release of his book is first on Wilson’s agenda, he also promises that fans could hear new music before the end of the year. He told BBC Radio 1 that he’s working on an album, a steady fallback for a guy who says he “[knows] how to write rock’n’roll.”
Wilson said drug use caused him to begin hearing sounds and sometimes “threatening” voices in his head, a horror he struggles with to this day. It also exacerbated stage fright, which Wilson struggled with before, during, and after drugs took their toll on his psyche.
“It just makes me feel a little bit nervous to go on stage and have all those people cheering at you,” he said.
