The Daily Cut: Steve Miller “Take the Money and Run”

Steve Miller: “Take the Money and Run”

ALBUM: Fly Like an Eagle

YEAR: 1976

WRITER: Steve Miller

Peaked at number-11 on the Billboard Hot 100.

You probably know Steve Miller’s 1976 hit “Take the Money and Run” and his next single that year, the chart-topping “Rock’n Me,” but Miller tells us the songs have more in common than just being hits. “The funny thing about ‘Take the Money and Run’ was that originally ‘Rock’n Me’ and ‘Take the Money and Run’ were – the music was opposite. So I was singing ‘Rock’n Me’ on top of ‘Take the Money and Run’ music and ‘Take the Money and Run’ was originally written on top of the rhythm track for ‘Rock’n Me’ and I changed them and that’s what put them together. It made them work.”

Steve Miller celebrates his 73rd birthday today.
